BREAKING: LC Police investigating bomb threat made to Dolby Elementary

The Lake Charles Police Department is investigating a bomb threat called into Dolby Elementary School Wednesday afternoon.

Deputy Chief Franklin Fondel said law enforcement was made aware of the threat through a 911 call made at 1:30 p.m. The first dispatch unit arrived on Dolby’s campus in under five minutes as students and faculty were being evacuated from the school, he said.

Deputies with the Calcasieu Parish Sheriff’s Office arrived soon after to hold the perimeter and conduct traffic control, Fondel said.

He said law enforcement officials worked with Calcasieu Parish School officials to ensure all students and faculty were safe and accounted for and then assisted with relocating everyone to a nearby church for afternoon dismissal.

“Our main focus first was the kids and the staff of the school,” Fondel said.

SWAT officers also completed a thorough sweep of the school with the assistance of a CPSO Bomb Detection K9, Fondel said.
