Reserve officer arrested Thursday

<p class="p1">A former DeQuincy reserve officer has been arrested for false personation after stopping a driver without the authority to do so, said the Calcasieu Parish Sheriff’s Office.</p><p class="p1">Kim Myers, Sheriff’s Office spokesperson, said today that during an investigation about a man in an unmarked black truck with blue and white lights in the vehicle’s grill pulling over a man in the Moss Bluff area, calls came in from several other people, including DeQuincy police Chief Michael Suchanek, identifying Nikolas R. Brown, 35, of Longville, as a possible suspect. Myers said that Brown, as a former DeQuincy reserve officer, did not have authority to make traffic stops and was located outside of his jurisdiction. She said that reserve officers only have that authority while working under direct supervision of their agency which Brown was not. </p><p class="p1">Myers said that Brown confirmed to detectives that he stopped the man without having the authority to do so.</p><p class="p1">Myers said that Brown was arrested, charged with false personation and released on a misdemeanor summons.  She said that detectives seized his blue lights as well as several other items of police-related equipment.</p>
