Appeal denied for 2009 murder conviction

Dickerson serving life in prison for killing DeQuincy man

The state Supreme Court has denied an appeal for a man who was convicted in the 2009 murder of a DeQuincy man.

Jon Boo Dickerson, 38, was found guilty in 2013 of second-degree murder in the killing of Darrell Lynn Schaub, 56, behind the old Parkway Motel just outside of DeQuincy.

The jury returned a unanimous verdict. Schaub’s body was found under a mattress behind the motel where he had been staying for about a month prior to the murder.

Authorities said after Dickerson killed Schaub, he took his car and credit cards. Investigators were able to connect Dickerson to the crime through DNA evidence retrieved from the scene.

Prosecutors were David Kimball and Brett Sandifer. Dickerson was sentenced to life in prison by Judge Kent Savoie in state district court.

His sentence was ordered to be served without the benefit of parole and at hard labor. With this denial of his latest appeal, Dickerson has now exhausted all of his appeals at the state level.””Appeal denied
