Starks man arrested of kidnapping, attempted murder

A 22-year-old Starks man was arrested Monday afternoon after Calcasieu Parish Sheriff’s Office deputies discovered an unconscious female Sunday night.

Calcasieu Parish Sheriff’s Office spokesperson Kayla Vincent said the victim had been taken against her will by an acquaintance — Matthew D. Estridge, 22, 5097 Buddy Johnson Road — who also threatened to kill her and hit her so many times that she lost consciousness.

On Monday, detectives issued a warrant signed by Judge Kendrick Guidry for Estridge’s arrest. Later the same day Estridge turned himself in and when detectives spoke with him he confirmed he was responsible.

He was arrested and booked into the Calcasieu Correctional Center and charged with simple kidnapping and attempted second-degree murder.  Guidry ordered Estridge be held without bond pending a hearing.

The victim sustained major injuries and was transported to a local hospital.

Det.Roger Pete is the lead investigator on this case.
