BREAKING: Man sought in attempted murder
Authorities are searching for a man on an attempted second-degree murder charge and other charges following an altercation Saturday inside an Oakdale residence.
Authorities said Monday they are searching for 48-year-old Matthew Vernon Coker.
Coker is wanted for attempted second-degree murder, failure to seek assistance and interfering with emergency communications, according to Grant Willis, of the Oakdale Police Department.
Investigators believe Coker got into an altercation with a male relative that escalated into him attacking the victim inside a residence the two shared in the 900 block of Maple Street in Oakdale.
“The altercation resulted in the victim being severely injured,” Willis said.
Coker is believed to have taken the victim’s phones to prevent him from calling for help, he said.
The victim, who is believed to be in his late to mid-60s and in poor health, was not able to contact authorities until Sunday due to his injuries, Willis said.
The victim is recovering from his injuries in the intensive care unit at an Alexandria hospital.
Authorities believe Coker left the residence sometime Sunday and has not been seen or heard from since.
Coker is described as a white male, 6 feet tall and 275 pounds.
He is known to carry knives and is considered to be armed and dangerous.
Coker is believed to be traveling on foot as he does not have a vehicle.
He has multiple prior arrests in Allen, Vernon and Rapides parishes.
Anyone with information on his whereabouts is asked to contact the Oakdale Police Department at 318-335-0290 or any local law enforcement agency.
