Charges upgraded in Oakdale shooting

A suspect’s charges have been upgraded to murder after the victim of a shooting in Oakdale on Friday died from his injuries, according to the Oakdale Police Department.

Malcom Pugh, 21, is now is being charged with second-degree murder after the victim died Monday in an area hospital.

The identity of the victim, who had been in critical condition after being shot multiple time on Friday, has not been released.

Pugh remains at large.

According to a preliminary investigation, Pugh allegedly shot the victim during an altercation on Arkansas Avenue near La. 372 around 3 p.m. Friday. The two men had reportedly been arguing in the street when Pugh shot the victim and fled the scene.

When police arrived, the victim had already been transported to the hospital by someone at the scene, according to Police Chief Chad Doyle.

Pugh should be considered armed and dangerous and should not be approached, Doyle said.
