Worker in DA’s office arrested for theft

A Calcasieu Parish District Attorney’s Office employee was terminated and arrested Monday morning after an internal audit found discrepancies.

Wendy Myers, a former traffic secretary, has been arrested and booked into the Calcasieu Correctional Center and charged with felony theft between $1,000-$5,000.

District Attorney’s Office spokesperson Bethany Bryant said an internal investigation found Myers had been stealing money orders as early as May.

The information was turned over to the Calcasieu Parish Sheriff’s Office, which resulted in criminal charges and an arrest, she said.

“I am disappointed in the actions of this former employee. However, her actions do not represent the hard-working, honest employees of our office,” said District Attorney Stephen Dwight. “Upon learning of this discrepancy, our leadership team acted swiftly and did a thorough internal audit.

Dwight said public trust is extremely important to him and his administration.

“I want to assure the citizens of our parish that we are taking the proper steps to prevent this type of incident from occurring again,” Dwight said.
