Shelter-in-place issued near Calcasieu Refining

A shelter-in-place has been issued — and Graywood Subdivision has been ordered to evacuate — due to a crude oil tank fire at the Calcasieu Refining Company.

The shelter-in-place order is for a 3-mile radius around Calcasieu Refining, according to the Calcasieu Office of Emergency Preparedness.

During a shelter-in-place:

  • Select a small, interior room, with no or few windows to stay.
  • Choose a room where exterior doors and windows close completely.
  • Turn off all fans, heating and air conditioning systems.
  • Inspect emergency kits and supplies.
  • Stay inside the room until you have received an “all clear”
