A man who was the subject of a manhunt in Alabama and who last week led police on a chase throughout Sulphur and into Carlyss before being shot by a police officer has been released from a local hospital and booked into the Calcasieu Correctional Center, authorities said.

Cody Glenn Light, 35, of Cullman Ala., has a lengthy criminal record according to police, and was wanted by Alabama authorities for illegal discharge of a weapon, flight with a weapon and attempted murder of a police officer.

Although other charges could be possible, Light has been charged here with armed robbery, attempted armed robbery and use of a firearm.

Schools in the Sulphur area were on lockdown during the chase last Wednesday, which authorities said included a staggering number of different locations as Light zigzagged all over the area, “running through backyards, into fields, going into residences, through the SPAR soccer fields,” and at one point brandishing a gun while threatening drivers on Interstate 10, before he was apprehended.

Police Chief Lewis Coats during a news conference last week said other charges could have also included multiple counts of home invasion, multiple counts of property damage, and aggravated assault. Light also has pending warrants out of Alabama, Coats said.

Officers with multiple law enforcement agencies including Sulphur Police, Calcasieu Parish Sheriff’s Office, Louisiana State Police and others were involved in the apprehension of Light.

Authorities said their investigation so far has revealed that Light stole a pickup truck in Vidor, Texas, and then traveled to Vinton where they said he burglarized a business.

From there, police said, Light allegedly stole a shotgun and traveled to Sulphur in the pickup truck.

Light crashed and abandoned the truck in Sulphur, authorities said, and then they said he stole a vehicle from another residence.

Officers pursued Light in that vehicle as he drove toward Carlyss where he crashed the car, they said.

Coats said officers established a perimeter and began to pursue Light on foot.

He said Light broke into a residence and took a weapon from that residence and continued on foot through a neighborhood.

Coats said a Sulphur police officer made contact with Light behind a residence and the “officer defended himself when the suspect raised his gun.”

He said Light was shot in the neck and was transported to a local hospital where he ultimately underwent surgery.

After Light was released from the hospital, he was booked into the Calcasieu Correctional Center.

Court dates have not yet been set for Light regarding his charges.

The investigation is continuing, and, at the request of Coats, Louisiana State Police has taken over the investigation.
