Threats made against schools

Investigation leads to arrests of two local teens

Two local teenagers have been arrested for making threats against LaGrange High School, Washington-Marion High School and Molo Middle School.

During an investigation by the Calcasieu Parish Sheriff’s Office, detectives learned that on Sept. 20, a 15-year-old student had allegedly made threats to “kill everyone at school” after being kicked out of class after a disturbance.

He was arrested and booked into the Juvenile Detention Center and is charged with terrorizing.

The next day, Sept. 21, sheriff’s office detectives were notified about a threat from a student at Washington-Marion.

During that investigation, authorities learned that a 16-year-old student had made a social media post threatening a bombing and/or a shooting at Washington-Marion High School as well as Molo Middle School.

Authorities said the student was located at his home where he was arrested and then booked into the Juvenile Detention Center.

He is charged with two counts of communicating false information of a planned bombing on school property.

The Calcasieu Parish School Board, after the threats, said, “Any person, including students, making threatening comments, writings, or actions towards any of our schools will be met with immediate action by law enforcement and maximum disciplinary action allowed under Calcasieu Parish School Board policy.”

Further, it said, “the safety of our students, faculty, and staff will always be a number one priority.”

As a precautionary measure, extra law enforcement were at the affected campuses on the days of the incidents.
