School bus driver, several students injured in collision with logging truck

A school bus driver and several students were taken to an Alexandria hospital Tuesday afternoon after their bus was involved in a wreck with an unloaded log truck off La. 10, just west of Oakdale.

“We had a school bus hit a log truck on Sam Cloud Road this afternoon,” Allen Parish School Superintendent Brad Soileau said.

The bus driver was airlifted from the scene to Rapides Regional Medical Center where she was reported to be in stable condition, according to Soileau.

Seven students on the bus also received minor injuries and were taken to the hospital to be checked out as a precaution, he said.

The driver of the log truck also received minor injuries.

The students were mostly elementary and middle school students from Elizabeth High School, according to Soileau.

The crash happened around 3:30 p.m. on Sam Cloud Road off La. 10 between Elizabeth and Oakdale as the bus was bringing students from Elizabeth High School home after school, he said.

The accident remains under investigation by Louisiana State Police.
