Judge Davis elected newest member of Court of Appeal

Clayton Davis defeated Anthony Eaves, both of whom are Republican, to become the newest member of the Louisiana 3rd Circuit Court of Appeal for the 2nd District in the nonpartisan primary election.

Davis received a total of 62,122 votes, or 61 percent, over Eaves’ 40,394 votes, or 39 percent.

Parish by parish, 69 percent of voters, or 42.294 votes, voted for Davis in Calcasieu Parish; 68 percent of voters, or 2,150 votes, in Cameron Parish; and 62 percent of voters, or 5,293 votes, in Jefferson Davis.

The election was neck-in-neck in Beauregard Parish, with 50 percent of voters, 7,426 votes, electing Davis. Davis won in Beauregard Parish by only 25 votes.

In Vernon Parish, 67 percent of voters were in favor of Eaves, with 10,064 votes.

Davis is a judge of the Louisiana 14th Judicial District Court, Division B. He earned his Juris Doctor from Southern Methodist University in 1981 and has worked as a lawyer for 27 years before his judicial election in 2008.

In 2022, he lost the Louisiana 3rd Circuit Court of Appeal 2nd District election to Judge Guy Bradberry by just under 1,000 votes.

The Louisiana 3rd Circuit Court of Appeal, 2nd District territory includes parts of Beauregard, Calcasieu, Cameron, Jeff Davis and Vernon parishes.

Davis will serve a 10-year term starting Jan. 1.
