Mickey Smith Jr. presents his new children’s book, “The Adventures of Little Mickey: Keep on Going,” to the student body of Maplewood Middle in the school’s gym Tuesday, Dec. 18, 2018. Smith’s book is based on a childhood anecdote the music educator has shared with his students since he first began as a band director in 2005. It highlights how his first attempts at music were “amazingly terrible,” and his mother told him to “keep on going” into the woods across the street to practice.
