Who will design the Mallard Cove replacement course, and what will it be called?

City Administrator John Cardone said the course, as yet unnamed, was designed by American Society of Golf Course Architects member Jeffrey D. Blume.

Blume’s firm has worked on courses throughout Texas and was involved in renovations at the Lake Charles Country Club.

Cardone said the ASGCA will manage the course’s construction.

Vendors must verify lottery players’ ages

I’m a senior citizen. When trying to buy a Louisiana Lottery ticket I was asked to provide my driver’s license. What’s up with that? It seems ridiculous.

“Swiping a player’s license to verify age is not a Lottery policy, but some retailers do require a driver’s license swipe in order to confirm that the customer meets the minimum age required to purchase a Lottery ticket,” reads the website of the Louisiana Lottery Corp.

“The Lottery requires only that the retailer verify that the customer has met the minimum age to purchase a Lottery ticket, but we do NOT require retailers to use any particular technology to do so.”

Sales tax rate in LC stands at 10.2 percent

What is the sales tax rate in Lake Charles?

The local rate is 5.75 percent, and the state rate is 4.45 percent. That makes the total rate 10.2 percent.

The state tax doesn’t apply to food or prescription drugs, but food and drugs are subject to the local tax.

Outside of Calcasieu Parish municipalities, food and drugs — thanks to an exemption from a 1 percent Police Jury assessment — are subject to only a 4.75 percent local rate.
