Cool weather partly to blame for delay in work

Why has work on La. 27 between Sulphur and Carlyss just about completely stopped for at least two months? It cannot be because of the weather. What is the estimated time of completion?

Don Duberville, regional engineer administrator for the state Department of Transportation and Development, said the La. 1256-La. 27 project is 75 percent complete and that about 60 percent of the contract time has elapsed.

“Work on the project has been slowed due to cooler temperatures and wet conditions,” Duberville wrote in an email. “The contract specifications require the ambient temperature to be above 50 degrees F with dry pavement in order to place the final layer of asphalt pavement.”

He said the contractor is concentrating on “less restricted work,” such as new turn lanes at the Patton Street-Arena Road intersection. Other work includes a box culvert extension in the Red Rose Drive area, along with “various safety end treatments throughout the project.”

The full project should be done by the middle of this year, Duberville said.

Filers must use mail for amended return

I need to file an amended return for the IRS for the year 2016. I read that you can’t file a return electronically — it has to be by mail. Is this true?

Yes.

“You can’t file an amended tax return electronically under the e-file system,” reads the Internal Revenue Service’s website.

According to the instructions on amending returns, filers in Louisiana would generally send their completed Form 1040X to Department of the Treasury, Internal Revenue Service, Austin, TX 73301-0052.
