JENNINGS — The Jeff Davis Parish Library is updating its Friday hours to help students.
The Elton, Lake Arthur and Welsh libraries will be open 9:30 a.m.-4 p.m. beginning Aug. 17.
Hours for the parish library in Jennings will remain 9 a.m.-6 p.m.
Students in grades 6 and up can visit the library without supervision. If students are there before 3 p.m. they need to be there for schoolwork or to pick up items.
They will not be allowed to hang out at the library all day due to restrictions in the building capacity.
Students are encourages to call their local library ahead of time and schedule computer time to ensure a computer is available and to limit the number of patrons in the building at one time. Computer time will be scheduled in one-hour blocks.
Library staff will be available to assist students in getting online, accessing their Google Classroom account and answering general questions. Staff will also be able to assist with printing, finding resources and suggesting homework help sites.
Staff cannot provide tutoring services, but recommend students use www.homeworkla.org.
Every library will have chrome books or laptops for in-house use only to supplement the public computers available at each facility.
WiFi will also in all library parking lots 5 a.m.-11 p.m.
