The Calcasieu Parish Sheriff’s Office hosted a memorial service Tuesday in honor of CPSO K9 King that included full honors, a 21-gun salute and TAPS. K9 King died in the line of duty on July 12.

The previous day he had completed a search for a domestic violence suspect. After the search the dog suffered from complications due to heat exhaustion. He was a 7-year-old Belgian Malinois who worked for CPSO the last four years. K9 King was cremated and his ashes will be kept by his handler, Sr. Cpl. Chris Duhon and his family.
