JENNINGS — Wilson Savoy of Lafayette won the adult division at the Strand Theater on Saturday for the fifth annual Squeezebox Shootout Accordion Championship. Jess Leger was second and Bradley Venable third.
Junior division winners were Travis Benoit, first; Brandon Wayne Degeter, second; and Bryce Esthay, third. Youth division winners were Bubba Hebert first; Kegan Navarre second; and Julie Babineaux, third.
Landmark house
VINTON — The historic Samuel J. Welsh house at 1404 Horridge St. has been given a prestigious Landmark Award by the Calcasieu Historical Preservation Society. A 25-year-member of the Calcasieu Parish School Board, S.J. Welsh Middle School is named in his honor.
Receiving the award were the current owner, Billy and Linda White. A.C. Bourdier, awards committee chairman, said the house was built in 1908.

Poster contest winner
Michelle Fontenot, a 3rd-grader at Gillis Elementary, is the winner of the Dental Health Poster Contest sponsored by the Southwest Louisiana Dental Association.
Her poster is displayed on a billboard on westbound Interstate 210 near the Lake Street exit. Second place winner was Nathen Arceneaux of E.K. Key Elementary.
Diamond anniversary
Mr. and Mrs. Eunice (Mary) Dartez celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary with a reception Sunday, Feb. 12, 1995, in the Ragley home of their son and daughter-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Peter L. Dartez.
Co-hosts were their children, Dorothy Griffin of Ragley and Beverly Sonnier of Moss Bluff. The couple was married Feb. 7, 1935, in St. Peter Catholic Church in Gueydan and has seven grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.

Pre-Valentine Show
Among the Calcasieu Parish 4-H Club members participating in the pre-valentine fashion show sponsored by Gulf States Utilities and Sears are Kay Courmier of Vinton High School, Marilyn Spears of Bell City High and Debbie
Comeaux of Sam Houston High.
Girls taking part in the show modeled clothes made themselves.
History, geography projects
Members of St. Margaret PTC were entertained when the sixth grade classes of Mrs. James White and Mrs. John
Dorgant held a program based on their history and geography projects.
The program was narrated by Debbie Daniel. The Rev. Michael Benedict spoke to the group.

Five killed in action
Five men from this area were listed as killed in action in a casualty list made public today by the War Department, all killed in the European area. The dead are: Pfc. Sedric W. Cavanaugh, son of Mrs. Dell Cavanaugh, Leesville.
Also, Pfc. Duplice East, brother of Ambrose East, Hackberry; Pfc. John W. Fontenot, son of Mrs. Mary Fontenot, Eunice; Cpl. Elay J. Fund, husband of Mrs. Florence Fund, Lafayette; and, Tech. Fifth Grade Lawrence Miller, husband of Mrs. Doris D. Miller, Basile.
