Ethel Trudy Bertrand, 61, of Sulphur, died Wednesday, Aug. 5. Graveside service will be 10 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 8, at Farquhar Cemetery, Sulphur, under the direction of Hixson-Sulphur Memorial Funeral Home.

Jerry Boudreaux, 61, passed away Monday, Aug. 3, 2020, at his home.

He was born on Nov. 6, 1958, in Creole, La., to Chester and Alberta Boudreaux.

He lived most of his life in Cameron and worked for Cameron Rental for 20 years and most recently worked for OEG Offshore. He will be remembered as a loving father and grandfather who enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren, washing his truck and mowing his grass. Boudreaux never met a stranger and was a great example and teacher to his children and grandchildren.

He is survived by his two sons, James Robert Boudreaux (Kassie) and Jake Clint Boudreaux (Molly) of Cameron, La.; daughter, Tabitha Mathewson of Nederland, Texas; companion, Gail Mudd; brothers, Jaimie Boudreaux (Tina), Joey Boudreaux (Theresa), Danny Boudreaux (Charlene) of Big Pasture, Rickey Boudreaux (Susan) of Kinder; sister, Crystal Savoie (Terrance) of Cameron; grandchildren, Will Boudreaux, Meg Boudreaux, Mason Boudreaux and Adison Mathewson; uncle, Gary Zitterich of Florida; aunts, Shirley Guillory of Florida, and Sharon Davis of Oklahoma.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and JR’s father-in-law, Earl Guthrie.

His funeral service will be held at Our Lady Star of the Sea Catholic Church on Friday, Aug. 7, 2020, at 1 p.m. under the direction of Johnson Funeral Home. The Rev. D. B. Thompson will officiate. Burial will follow the service in Our Lady Star of the Sea Cemetery. Visitation will be held at Johnson Funeral Home Thursday from noon until 8 p.m. with a rosary being recited at 6:30 p.m. Visitation will continue at the funeral home Friday from 11 a.m. until noon.

Effie Maple “Mae” Roy Cassa, 52, of Alexandria, died Aug. 1. Funeral service will be 11 a.m. today, Aug. 6, at The Pentecostals of Alexandria in the GA Mangun Center. Committal service will be in Tioga Cemetery, Tioga, under the direction of White Oaks Funeral Home, Alexandria.

Kenneth Michael Dewey, 70, died Sunday, Aug. 2, in a local hospital. A Mass of Christian Burial will be 2 p.m. today, Aug. 6, at Our Lady of Good Counsel Catholic Church under the direction of Johnson Funeral Home. Burial will be in Consolata Cemetery.

Donna Marie Fitch Thurston, 70, of Waldorf, Md., died Friday, July 21. Service is under the direction of Myers-Colonial Funeral Home in DeRidder.

Betty Fontenot

Betty Fontenot, faithful servant of the Lord, passed from this life on Aug. 3, 2020, at the age of 90, holding her husband’s hand and surrounded by their children. She was born Oct. 3, 1929, in Lacassine, La., daughter of the late Elton Foreman and Anita Bourque Foreman.

Despite her modest height, Betty was a fierce competitor in basketball for the Lacassine High School Cardinals. She married the love of her life, Claude Adam Fontenot, on June 7, 1947. They welcomed five children: Glenda, Ellen, Steve, Claudia and Jenny. She gave her life to Christ in her early 20s and faithfully served as pastor’s wife at Centerville Baptist Church, Centerville, La.; Oberlin Baptist Church, Oberlin, La.; Kaplan Baptist Church, Kaplan, La.; First Baptist Church, Golden Meadow, La.; Trinity Baptist Church, New Iberia, La.; and First Baptist Church, Rayne, La. She supported Claude in many, many interim pastorates after retirement. She was passionate about serving the Lord and she beautifully and humbly fulfilled her calling.

Betty was known by her family for her kindness, affection, feistiness, mischief, sewing skills, delicious Cajun cooking and inability to go to bed at family gatherings for fear of missing out on fun. She was also known as grandmother extraordinaire. As one great-niece expressed, “Her kind words made you feel so loved. I want to be more like her. We all have a choice and I want to spread nothing but love and kindness. I don’t want to be like Bonnie and Clyde anymore — I want to be like Betty and Claude.”

She was predeceased by her parents; and her daughter-in-law, Barbara (Babs) Tooke Fontenot.

She is survived by her husband of 73 years, Claude Adam Fontenot; daughter Glenda Fontenot (Pat Neff Hardesty) of Bellaire, TX; daughter Ellen Fontenot (Rick Leidal) of Castle Rock, CO: grandson Monte McCune (Jordan): Ashton and Saryn; grandson Jason Leidal; son Steven Guy Fontenot (Kristi) of Castle Rock, CO: grandson Brad Fontenot (Kari): Mikayla, Kaitlyn, Alex, Caleb, and Abby; grandson Josh Stanley: Aiko; granddaughter Christie Fontenot Parker (Nathan): Noah, Clara and Claude; granddaughter Jenn Stanley Hawkins (Cody): Pepper, Holton and Brecklee; grandson John Claude Fontenot (Mandy): Wyatt and Amelie; grandson Joel Stanley: Charis, Kalyn and Josh; grandson Jesse Stanley; grandson Jon Stanley (Katie): Lennon; grandson Jordan Stanley (Heather): Tristan and Arlo; grandson Jared Stanley (Julia): Fynn and Talyn; granddaughter Joy Stanley Morehead (Cody): Afton and Cohen; grandson J Austin Stanley (Mitch Clough); granddaughter Julee Stanley; and granddaughter Jensyn Stanley; daughter Claudia Fontenot (Jimmy Olander) of Franklin, TN: grandsons Max and Tank Olander; and daughter Jenny Fontenot Howell of Shreveport, LA: granddaughter Anna Howell.

Betty is also survived by sister Shirley Sue Foreman Goss (Shirley Ross); brother Floyd Edward Foreman (Judy); and sister Linda Faye Foreman Guidry (Larry); and a host of adored nieces and nephews; and great-nieces and nephews.

Viewing will be held at Hixson Funeral Home of Welsh on Thursday, Aug. 6, 2020, from 4 p.m. until 8 p.m. Due to the Covid-19 pandemic, the family will not be present for the public viewing. A private service for immediate family will be held at a later date, with Bro. Pat Deshotel officiating. A link to view the virtual funeral service will be posted here at a later date. Josie Mae (Gobert) Guillory, 88, was called to her heavenly home on Aug. 1, 2020. She was born on Jan. 3, 1932, in Mallet, La., to the late Lawrence and Catherine (Godeaux) Gobert.

Josie was a native of Lake Charles for the past 65 years. She was employed as a bus driver by the Calcasieu Parish School Board driving for Eastwood, and Washington Marion HS from which she retired after 30 years. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt and daughter. She enjoyed traveling across the country to visit her family and children. As the matriarch of her family, she enjoyed having everyone gathered around during the holidays.

Left in God’s care to cherish her memory are her three children, Curtis Guillory (Ruby), Pamela Anderson (Wade), both of Lake Charles, and Debra Guillory of Conyers, Ga.; four grandchildren; eight brothers; three sisters; 10 great-grandchildren; along with a host of nieces, nephews, godchildren; and other relatives and friends.

The family would also like to acknowledge and thank Velma Gallien, Nancy Carter, Brandi Guillory and St. Joseph Hospice for all the loving care that was given to our Mother.

Judie Cagle “Coca” Kohler, 71, died Friday, July 31, at home. Due to the circumstances of COVID 19, the funeral service on Saturday will be for family and extended family only. The service will be livestreamed and can be viewed on Johnson Funeral Home Facebook page beginning at 10 a.m. Burial will be in Prien Memorial Park Cemetery.

Winston Joseph Latour III

Winston Joseph Latour III, 37, a resident of Lake Charles, passed from this life on July 29, 2020.

Winston was born on Oct. 19, 1982, in Lake Charles.

He was a loving person and a great dad. He was a jokester and loved cooking for his family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his father, Winston J. Latour II; and his grandparents, Joseph and Betty Hebert; aunt, Brenda Hebert; and uncle, Carl Thomas.

Jay leaves to cherish his memory is wife, Jaquetta Lorena Ledet Latour; five children, Jaidyn , Damonte, Synayah, Jor’dyn and Jayla Latour; mother, Glenda Latour; grandmother, Lois Haley; sisters, Tineka (Kevin) Ceasar, Shekina (Michael) Byars, Arisha Allison; and several aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.

Mr. Latour’s service will be private, and his cremation will follow the service.

Clifton J. Legendre

Clifton J. Legendre, 81, was born on Nov. 11, 1938, in Chackbay, La. He attended LT and Thibodaux High. Enlisting into the U.S. Army at 17, Cliff achieved the rank of Staff Sergeant (E-6) and was attached to HQ Company, 2nd Battalion, 14th Armed Cavalry Regiment New York, New York. He served his country with honor, received many commendations and citations, and was an expert in tank weaponry and submachine guns.

A loving brother, uncle, father, grandfather, he had a heart of pure gold and gentle temperance. He encompassed love, grace, meekness, kindness, devotion, and was always eager to lend a helping hand. He was a lifelong member of Our Lady of Prompt Succor Church in Chackbay, Louisiana, And Sulphur, Louisiana. Cliff was an exceptionally hard worker and spent many years as a manager for Central Industrial Services. He also spent many years as a Regional Distributions Manager for several national newspaper publishing companies. However, always the people person and a man that enjoyed the laughter and excitement of others, the last years of his life he spent operating Frenchie’s Ice Cream Truck, with his daughter Sarah.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Victor Joseph and Lurline Legendre; and second wife, Theresa Hinton Legendre.

Those left to cherish his enduring memory include six sisters, Nancy L. Benoit of Thibodaux, Eula Mae L. Leonard, Betty L. Usey, Mabel L. Barrileaux, Corlis Ann L. Chiasson and Earline L. Chiasson, all of Chackbay, La.; two sons, Robert Legendre of Cortland, Ohio, Thomas Legendre of Sulphur, La.; five daughters, Gabriele Merritt of Greensburg, Ky., Mary Chandler of Denton, Texas, Chassity Hinton of Las Vegas, Nev., Lisa Lantia of Westlake, La., and Sarah Legendre of Sulphur, La.; nine grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and first wife, Waltrud Gröschel Legendre.

The family will receive friends on Friday, Aug. 7, 2020, from 11 p.m. to 1 p.m. Funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. in the chapel of Lakeside Funeral Home. Burial with Military Honors will follow at Old Ritchie Cemetery.

In accordance with COVID-19 guidance, attendance will be limited, and the family respectfully request mask be worn, and social distancing is practiced.

Linda Kay Moore

Linda Kay Moore, 77, passed away Tuesday, Aug. 4, 2020, at home.

She was born January 30, 1943 in Grayson, La., to Joseph and Zada McDaniel Moore.

She lived most of her life in Lake Charles. She attended Marion School. She was a member of Apostolic Temple in Lake Charles. She loved spending the 4th of July at Camp Meeting in Tioga. She was a people person who enjoyed spending time with family and friends. She loved to crochet.

Those left to cherish her memory are her sister, Mary Simon (Woodley) of Lake Charles; her niece, Holly Simon (Paul Glasco) of Lake Charles; her nephew, Woodley Simon III (Vanda) of Houston, Texas; her great-nieces, Rhianna Simon, Nastassia Simon; and her great-nephews, Woodley Joseph Simon IV and Evan Glasco.

She was preceded in death by her parents; and her siblings, Charles, Bobby and Daniel.

Her funeral service will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 8, 2020, in the Johnson Funeral Home Chapel. The Rev. Ricky Treece will officiate. Burial will follow in Prien Memorial Park Cemetery under the direction of Johnson Funeral Home of Lake Charles. Visitation will be at the funeral home on Friday, Aug. 7, 2020, from 4 p.m. until 7 p.m. and will continue on Saturday from noon until the time of the service.

Percy Thomas

On Sunday, Aug. 2, 2020, Percy Thomas passed from this life to enter into eternal rest with his guardian angel by his side. Percy was born on March 22, 1948, to his parents Percy and Ezola Thomas. Percy loved to make people laugh if you were in his company you were laughing. He lived for his family. His memory will forever live in the hearts of his loving wife Gail and three kids Karen, Karl and Percy III. Percy was a lifelong member of Immaculate Heart of Mary where he was a member of The Knights of Peter Clever #141 and The Holy Name Society.

Percy is survived by his loving wife and soulmate of 51 years, Gail; daughter, Karen (Bruce) Hardy; two sons, Karl (Tara) Thomas and Percy Thomas III, all of Lake Charles; three stepchildren, Bruce and Brittney Hardy, and Jalean Davis; four sisters, Janice Thomas, Patricia Brasfield, Brenda (Amos) Collins, all of Lake Charles, Linda (Greg) Massington; one brother, Robert Thomas of Denver, Colo.; three grandchildren, Jules and Jaren Hardy and Tatayana Thomas; three step-grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren; sisters-in-law, Susie (Horace) Rideau, Bonnie (Steve) Hawley, Alice (Michael) Joseph; brothers-in-law, Larry (Vendoria) Perodin and Charles Gordon.

Percy was preceded in death by his parents, Percy and Ezola Thomas; and sister, Rose Gordon.

The family would like to express thanks to the wonderful staff at Oschner St. Patrick’s Hospital, especially Nurses on Unit 51 and the Nurses in CCU in Area 24. A special thanks to Dr. Luke Williams, Dr. Abu Shamat, Dr. H, and Michelle Nguyen for their wonderful care of Percy Thomas a loving husband and father.

Mass of Christian Burial will be on Friday, Aug. 7, 2020, at 11 a.m. at Immaculate Heart of Mary Church. Father Wayne LeBleu will officiate. His viewing will be in Fondel Memorial Chapel from 9 a.m to 10 a.m. with a rosary being said at 10 a.m. Burial will be in Combre Memorial Park under the direction of Fondel Memorial Chapel.

Junius “Jr.” Vincent

SULPHUR — Junius “Jr.” Vincent, 83, died Sunday, Aug. 3, 2020, in a local care center.

He was a native and lifelong resident of Sulphur. Jr. enjoyed taking care of horses and spending time with his family.

Survivors include his daughter, Helen Vallery and husband James of Sulphur; his stepdaughters, Linda Chesson and husband Larry of Carlyss, and Shirley Dupre of Sulphur; his siblings, Chris “Fatty” Vincent of Sulphur, Jessie Vincent of Iowa, and Christine Taylor of Sulphur; six grandchildren; and numerous great- and great-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy Vincent; and siblings, Eugene “Pete” Vincent, Walter Lee “Dick” Vincent, James “Sun” Vincent, Rosanna Jardneaux, Lora Belle O’Quain, Woodrow Vincent and Lloyd “Boozo” Vincent.

A Celebration of Jr’s Life was held at 2:30 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 5, in Hixson-Sulphur Memorial Funeral Home led by Jody Barrilleaux, Celebrant. Burial was held in Mimosa Pines Cemetery South in Carlyss.
