Charles Milton “Charlie” Guillory, Sr., 95, of Moss Bluff, La. passed away Saturday, April 5, 2025. Charlie was born on Dec. 7, 1929 out in the country about four miles south of Welsh, La. He turned 12 years old on the day Pearl Harbor was attacked. He would tell us how he could remember that day like it was yesterday! Charlie left high school early to join the US Army, serving during the Korean War. After being honorably discharged, he enrolled at SOWELA Technical College in Lake Charles and earned a degree in Electronics. He went to work for Ed’s Radio and TV on Ryan Street during the 1950’s and early 1960’s where he found a passion to collect and repair antique radios. In the mid 1960’s, Charlie went to work for the FAA (Federal Aviation Administration). One of his first assignments was in Puerto Rico, where he married the love of his life, Mary Vena Arabie in February of 1968. They had great memories of the two years they lived there sharing lots of stories. After moving back to the states, Charlie had a long and successful career with the FAA in Houston, Texas, retiring in 1991.
He is survived by his loving wife of 57 years, Mary Vena Arabie Guillory of Moss Bluff; one son, Charles Milton Guillory Jr. of Lake Charles; one stepson, James Paul Daigle (wife, Jennie) of Westlake; one stepdaughter, Jeanette Landreneau (husband David) of Moss Bluff; six grandchildren, Jamie Daigle Morgan (husband, O.B.) of Ragley La., Ernest Daigle (wife, Krystal) of Westlake, La., David Wayne Landreneau (wife, Twila), Kathy Evans (husband, Troy) of Moss Bluff, La., Alisa Ann Landreneau; and one grandson-in-law, Jay Fields of Abilene, Texas. He is also survived by 13 great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren.
He is also survived by two brothers, Wilton Lee “Curley” Guillory of New Iberia, La. and Wilmer Paul “Dean” Guillory (wife, Phoebe) of Lake Charles; and one sister, Evelyn Marie Guillory Schopen of Lake Charles, La.
Charlie was preceded in death by his parents, Floureman “Jack” Guillory and Ruby Beatrice Derouen Guillory; two brothers, Huland J. Guillory and Robert James “Bob” Guillory, and granddaughter, Laurie Gail Daigle Fields.
Charlie was affectionately known as Paw Paw Charles by all the grandchildren. They love to tell stories of the summer vacations they took together. He was always fun to be around. Besides piddling with his antique radios, he loved to work in his yard and garden. He definitely had a green thumb. Charlie and Vena loved to travel and attend estate sales. They collected many treasures over the years. They lived life to the fullest! He loved and will be missed by his beloved cats, Rita and Violet.
The family requests that visiting hours be observed at Hixson Funeral Home-Moss Bluff on Wednesday, April 9, 2025 from 9 a.m. until time of services at 11 a.m. Burial will follow at Lacassine Catholic Cemetery.
