Miller improves to 9-0, Bucs beat Broncos 5-1

MOSS BLUFF – Behind another stellar pitching performance by senior Jairus Miller, Barbe swept Sam Houston in the regular season for the first time since 2016.

The teams have split their regular season meetings every season since 2017.

Barbe (24-4, 10-0) won its 18th consecutive game.

Miller improved to 9-0 after holding the Broncos to one run on five hits with eight strikeouts and two walks. He lowered his earned run average to 0.22 with 93 strikeouts in 56 innings. He has allowed one earned run in his last four starts.

Miller allowed two base runners through the first four innings before Carson Christ hit an RBI double in the fifth inning. The Broncos threatened again in the sixth inning after Miller walked two batters. Miller sent the next two batters to the dugout on a pop and strikeout, and catcher Presley Courville threw out a runner at third base. Miller struck out the final four batters he faced, including three in the final inning.

Barbe opened the scoring in the third inning on Presley Courville’s RBI single and got some cushion in the fifth inning when J Washington hit an RBI single and J.D. Alexander hit a two-run double.

Brit Vick went 3 for 4 with one run and two doubles to lead the Bucs at the plate, while Courville and Alexander had a pair of runs.

Sam Houston’s (21-6, 7-3) Owen Galley went 2 for 3 and scored a run.

Cole Flanagan took the loss on the mound after allowing four runs on seven hits in four and one-third innings.
