A pair of sophomore pitchers locked into a pitchers’ duel in a one-run District 3-5A game Saturday as Barbe escaped with a 1-0 win over rival Sam Houston at Barbe High School.

Barbe southpaw Lawton Littleton went the distance and held the Bucs to three hits with seven strikeouts and two walks.

Lawton (6-1) has allowed one earned run in his last four starts. It was the eighth time in nine games that Barbe has shut out an opponent.

Sam Houston’s Owen Galley allowed one earned run in six innings with three strikeouts and no walks.

Both teams got leadoff singles in the first inning, but only Barbe pushed a run across.

Sam Houston’s Carson Christ hit a leadoff single to open the game and moved into scoring position on a sacrifice bunt by Charlie Donaldson. But Littleton closed the door with two strikeouts.

In the bottom of the first frame, Myles Ledoux singled and scored on a one-out single by Presley Courville for the game’s only run.

Sam Houston loaded the bases in the top of the third inning, but again Littleton came up big with a strikeout to close the inning.

The Broncos tried to force extra innings when Cole Flanagan led off the top of the seventh innings with a single, but Walker got a strikeout, and the Bucs turned a double-play to end the game.
