An unrestrained passenger died in a single-vehicle accident Tuesday on La. 383 near Haymond Road in Allen Parish.

The incident, which occurred shortly after 2 p.m., resulted in the death of 18-year-old Zoey Downing, according to Trooper First Class Matt Gaspard of Louisiana State Police Troop D.

The preliminary investigation indicated that 19-year-old Anthony Culbertson of Crowley was driving a 2003 Chevrolet Silverado south on La 383 when the vehicle left the road for unknown reasons, struck a culvert and overturned.

Downing, who was unrestrained, was partially ejected and pronounced dead at the scene due to fatal injuries.

Culbertson, who was properly restrained, sustained moderate injuries and was taken to a local hospital.

A standard toxicology sample was collected from Culbertson for analysis, and the crash remains under investigation.
