Spring is right around the corner, and “Suds and Buds 2025” will usher in the season with fresh brews and vibrant blooms.

Reins of Hope, a non-profit riding program that has provided Southwest Louisiana with equine therapy for 13 years, will host the inaugural “Suds and Buds.” From noon to 4 p.m. Saturday at The Stables at LeBocage, 4550 Southpark Drive in Lake Charles, guests will get to taste beer from local breweries while viewing flowers nurtured at area nurseries.

Funds raised will support Reins of Hope’s programming, including the care and maintenance of the horses.

The group of professionals at Reins of Hope guide riders to reach their “fullest potential through the unique and powerful connection with horses,” said Kammi Istre, program assistant.

Equine therapy can support individual physical, emotional and cognitive health, she said. Reins of Hope offers clients customized equine-assisted therapies in a safe environment. By allowing them to heal in an understanding space, they are able to carry the lesson and skills they have learned over into their day-to-day lives.

“Whether the challenge is physical, emotional, educational or social, horses perceive no disabilities or diagnoses,” Istre said. “Their non-judgmental nature enables participants to overcome their obstacles and lead more productive and healthy lives.”

She said the goal with “Suds and Buds” is to create a spring fundraising event that would be fun and appealing for both men and women.

“It started as just beer, plants and music but it has evolved into something much more,” she said. “It is now a family day that brings the community together all to help a great cause.”

Guests will have access to three nursery vendors, seven alcohol vendors and 13 food vendors. All brews and food will be provided by area vendors. Their offerings will be put to the test with the Favorite Cuisine of the Day and Favorite Brew of the Day competitions that will be judged by local “cuisine lovers” and “beer aficionados.”

Country musician Brad Brinkley and his band will provide entertainment throughout the event. His tunes will accompany the raffle and silent auction.

The event was also coordinated with children in mind, Istre said. The Kids Adventure Zone will feature activities provided by several local organizations. Children can expect fun jumps, face painting, arts and crafts, tumbling and an indoor playground that provides safe sensory interactive experiences for children.

Tickets for “Suds and Buds” are all-inclusive. One ticket grants access to all food, alcohol and activities. Entrance for adults is $40 and $15 for children age 17 and younger. They can be purchased online at Eventbrite.com.
