Oberlin comes alive in third quarter to beat Hamilton Christian

After a back-and-forth first half, Oberlin made its move in the third quarter and won its District 4-1A at Hamilton Christian on Tuesday 55-52.

The Tigers (16-12, 1-0) trailed Hamilton 26-23 at halftime.

Senior point guard Kayle Wolfe started a 12-4 run that led to a 35-30 lead midway through the third quarter. Wolfe dribbled her way into the lane for a bucket then got a steal and fed the ball to Megan Manuel for a 3-pointer in the first minute of the quarter. Wolfe got another steal two minutes later and scored on a layup to put the Tigers ahead for good, 32-20.

Oberlin’s lead peaked at 44-34 with 1:16 left in the third quarter on another Manuel 3-pointer. Manuel led Oberlin with 22 points, including five of the Tigers’ eight 3-pointers. Wolfe finished with 14 points, and Rylee McCleon added 11 points.

Hamilton Christian (8-9, 0-1) was able to pull within two points with 22 seconds left in the game when Trinity Henderson scored off an offensive board, but the Warriors turned the ball over with five seconds left trying to get the tying bucket.

Milah Ballou led three Warriors in double-digits with 19 points. Madison Williams scored 15 points, and Kayla Harding finished with 14.
