A Blizzard Warning has been issued for Cameron, Calcasieu, Jeff Davis, Acadia, Lafayette and Vermilion parishes until noon today.
National Weather Service Lake Charles Meteorologist Donald Jones said the warning is issued when there is frequent wind gusts up to 35-plus mph and 1/4 mile visibility.
A Winter Storm Warning remains in effect for the rest of the area until 3 p.m.
“So far this morning, accumulations have largely ranged from 1-3 inches but additional accumulations are expected through the morning,” Jones said.
He said the snow will end from west to east between 11 a.m. and 3 p.m.
“Skies will quickly clear behind the snow as even colder air filters into the region tonight,” he said. “Lows in the lower teens are expected with wind chills in the single digits.”
Jones said temperatures will struggle to get above freezing Wednesday so snow and ice that accumulates today will not melt much until Thursday afternoon.
