Louisiana Gov. Jeff Landry issued a State of Emergency Saturday afternoon in preparation for the winter weather expected to hit Louisiana.

The National Weather Service has issued cold weather advisories and extreme cold warnings for the state beginning Monday. The weather event is expected to last through Thursday.

This State of Emergency allows for direct state assistance to support operational measures at the parish level and helps protect the life, safety, and welfare of Louisiana residents.
