Time again for Chuck Eats: Restaurants set table for special 10-day food run

More than 35 restaurants throughout Calcasieu and Cameron parishes will be participating in the second annual Chuck Eats, beginning today and running through Jan. 26.

The project was designed to raise the profile of local eateries.

Here’s a mouthwatering sample of what to expect from three participating restaurants.

Cotton’s Downtown will serve up its old-fashioned, made-right-in-front-of-you bacon cheeseburger special with choice of fries or onion rings and 20-ounce drink for $10.

The Max Restaurant at The National in Westlake will be serving a $30 lunch and dinner. Portion sizes vary from the main menu. Diners will be able to choose from voodoo shrimp, berry salad or charbroiled oysters as a first course. For the second round, pick one: sliders with fries, crawfish grilled cheese sandwich or Cajun pasta. Southern bread pudding or molten chocolate cake for dessert? Eenie meenie, miny mo.

“Chuck” can get a $17.76 reuben sandwich, which is layers of juicy pastrami topped with sauerkraut and Russian dressing on rye, coleslaw, craft soda and 4 ounces of blackberry rum sauce bread pudding for  lunch or dinner at Paul’s RibShack Barbecue.

Uno. The $35 Orinoco’s lunch or dinner first course is  carimañola de crawfish (yucca ball with crawfish) tostones caribeños (stuffed fried plantains filled with shredded beef or fried pork belly) or ceviche tropical raw seafood, marinated in a lime juice concoction, served with plantain chips.

Dos. Will it be pollo cremoso con chips de plátanos (tower with Colombian potatoes, sweet plantain avocado and chicken? topped with a mild spicy cream) or Hallaca con ensalada de Papa (Venezuelan tamale wrapped in a banana leaf-accompanied potato salad and chicken) or chicharron con guacamole (fried pork belly with guacamole and plantain chips).

Tres. Dessert options are tres léches con coco (sponge cake with coconut soaked in three kinds of milk), flan (baked custard dessert topped with caramel or arroz con léche, a hot desert that is sweetened with condensed milk and topped with cinnamon-accompanied with cheese.
