Hon. Judge Glynn David Roberts

 Funeral services for Glynn David Roberts, 79, of Rayville, La. will be held at 2 p.m., Saturday, Jan. 18, 2025 at Woodlawn Baptist Church, Rayville, La. with Bro. Charles Ellzey officiating. Interment will follow in Stevenson Cemetery, Rayville, La. under the direction of Brown-Holley Funeral Home, Rayville, La. He died after a lengthy illness on Tuesday, Jan. 14, 2025.

Glynn David Roberts was born on May 14, 1945 to the union of J.K. Roberts and Iona Gates Yelverton Roberts. He was reared in the Chickasaw community, just north of Oak Grove in West Carroll Parish. He attended Kilbourne High School graduating in 1963, Louisiana Tech University graduating in 1967, and Louisiana State University School of Law graduating in 1970.

After graduating law school, and following the path of his brother, Henry L. Yelverton, Glynn David moved to Lake Charles, La. where he began his practice of law with Ellis Bond for three years. In 1973 Glynn married the love of his life, Patsy Gammill, and they moved to Richland Parish. He joined the Cotton & Bolton law firm and practiced law for 10 years, and for the last three of those years he also served as an Assistant District Attorney, representing the school boards and police juries of the three parishes of the Fifth Judicial District, Franklin, Richland, and West Carroll. In 1983, he was elected District Judge, Division B, of the Fifth Judicial District Court. He served in this capacity for 24 years, without opposition, until his retirement in 2008. After retirement he served as Judge Pro Tempore/Judge Ad Hoc by assignment from the Louisiana Supreme Court. His legal career spanned 51 plus years, 13 practicing law and 38 as a Judge.

Glynn and Patsy were members of Woodlawn Baptist Church in Rayville, where Glynn served as a deacon. For years they attended Clear Lake Baptist Church in West Carroll parish, which was Patsy’s home church. Patsy taught the elementary Sunday school class, and Glynn taught the adult class. Glynn also served as church clerk/treasurer. Both were faithful members, and always did their best to be obedient to and dependent upon God’s word.

Glynn was predeceased in death by his loving wife of 47 and a half years, Patsy Elaine Gammill Roberts; his parents, James Kenneth Roberts and Iona Gates Yelverton Roberts; and his brother, The Hon. Judge Henry L. Yelverton, Third Circuit Court of Appeal, and sister-in-law, Lorraine LeJeune Yelverton.

Left to cherish his memory is his son, Gregory David Roberts (Tammy) of Waco, Texas; granddaughter, Lexi Roberts Adcox (Austin) of Rayville, La.; grandson, Garrett David Roberts of Rayville, La.; sister, Shirley Roberts Loughlin (Bill) of West Monroe, La.; brother-in-law, Tommy Gammill (Mickie) of Long Beach, Miss.; and Pam Roberts (mother of Lexi and Garrett) of Rayville, La. He is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Pallbearers will be Clark Yelverton, Scott Yelverton, James Yelverton, Kirby Hendrix, Johnnie Townsend, Matt Philly, Alan Curry, Patrick Murray, and John Murray.

Honorary pallbearers are Bill Loughlin, Tommy Gammill, Billy Ray Gammill, Bob Adams, Ken Nix, and Leo Coleman.
