Legacy Prep, a K4-6th grade school, at FaithTemple, 1200 Patton St. in Sulphur, is now open.
Faith Temple pastor is Christopher Guidroz. His wife Anna said they came to the church eight years ago.
“As soon as I saw that hallway, I thought this has to be a school. There is so much space here. We can’t wait to fill it up with young hearts.”
She found out that the location was once a daycare, and plans are to make Legacy Prep a K-12 school by 2030.
With churches around the world dying out, Anna Guidroz sees Legacy Prep as a way to expand the ministry, to plant seeds and disciple a future generation to keep Faith Temple and other churches alive and thriving.
Guidroz has a Master’s Degree in Education, and has 10 years experience in public and private education in schools across Louisiana. She left public education, taking a $10,000 pay cut to teach at a private school. She also began to pay for her son to go to a private school that cared about his performance while keeping him appropriately challenged.
“He’s in college now,” she said, “and he’s doing amazing.”
She doesn’t expect enrollment at Legacy Prep to be the largest in the area. The focus will be on academic excellence.
The school will pull from the best of a few different curriculums.
“We do not plan to meet state guidelines,” Guidroz said. “We plan to exceed them. Students will have to want to succeed to be here.”
The school will also help the child develop character, confidence and respect for self and others in accordance with Biblical principles in general and the verse 2 Peter 1:5-8.
