A gunshot victim in Welsh drove himself to the police department late Monday before being airlifted to an area hospital where he remained in stable condition on Tuesday, according to Police Chief Marcus Crochet.
“We received a call around 11:40 p.m. last night in reference to a drive-by shooting in the 500 block of South Joseph Street,” Crochet said Tuesday. “When our officers arrived at the scene, they learned a man had been shot and had driven himself to the police department where our officers rendered aid in the parking lot.”
The victim, only identified as an adult male in his late 30s, was shot in the arm and leg inside a vehicle outside the residence where he had gone to drop several people off, Crochet said. No one else was injured.
Police do not believe the victim was the intended target, Crochet said.
The suspect’s vehicle is described as a white Ford Expedition or similar full size SUV.
Anyone with information on the shooting is asked to contact Detective Polk at the Welsh Police Department at 337-734-2626.
