Charles “Chuck” Roy Powell III

Charles Roy Powell III (Chuck) of Iowa, La. passed away peacefully in the comfort of his home Friday, Dec. 6, 2024. Chuck was born Dec. 15, 1944 in Philadelphia, Pa. to parents of Irish descent, Charles Roy Powell Jr. and Agnes Marie Daly Powell. Though he fondly recalled his New England childhood, he called Iowa, La. home for 42 years. Chuck was of the Catholic faith.
A lifelong learner, Chuck was a graduate of McNeese State University, earning two associate degrees, one in Electricity and one in Electronics. He became a master electrician and earned a certification in HVAC. He had many professions throughout his lifetime. During the Vietnam War, he served as an airplane mechanic in the Air Force. He worked for Muller’s Department Store and Lake Charles American Press. In 1998 he went to work for the Post Office maintaining the mail sorting equipment at night. He found his place; he loved the job, the hours and the great group that he worked with. He remained with the Post Office until his retirement in 2009. Chuck enjoyed maintaining his property and home, finding joy in every task. He also enjoyed doing renovation projects with his wife, Anita and took great pride in their work.
He was preceded in death by his parents Charles Roy Powell Jr. and Agnes Marie Daly Powell; his brother, Ronald Powell; his sisters, Gail Powell, Maureen Birchall and Joann Beason; his sister-in-law, Claire Powell; and his nephews, Ron Powell and Steven Schnepp.
Chuck is survived by his wife Anita (Tinsley); sons, Charles Powell IV, David Powell and Daniel Powell, Jack Tinsley, Jason Tinsley (Sonia); the mother of his three sons, Barbara Gilland; his brother, Jeff Powell; his grandchildren, Charles Powell V (Sarah), Matthew Powell (Shanna), Desi Powell, Lindsey Powell, David Powell Jr., Hannah Powell, Isabella Powell, Taylor Tinsley and Landon Tinsley; his great-grandchildren, Charles Powell VI, Jackson Powell, Talia Orlando, Piper Powell, Davina Ciarrochi, Leona Ciarrochi and Wyatt Powell; nieces, Bonnie Allard, Maureen McCleary, Renee Beason, and Marie Dockter; nephews, Joe Schnepp and Randy Beason; and all his grand nieces and nephews.
The family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to Harbor Hospice for the care and compassion they provided Chuck during his final days and to Father Anthony Fontenot with Saint Raphael Catholic Church. Also, the family would like to extend special thanks to his caregivers: Rhonda Broussard, Jeannell Jones, Patricia Campbell, Dewanna Guidry and Taylor Guidry.

There will be a service at a date to be determined. Chuck will be cremated and laid to rest aside his mother and father at Holy Cross Cemetery, Yeadon, Pa. Chuck left his family a legacy of laughter, devotion, love and respect. He will forever be remembered as a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, uncle and a devoted friend. He always had a smile and could find the positive in every situation. He loved the poem “If” by Rudyard Kipling, listening to music by Moody Blues, reading Science Fiction and watching Science Fiction movies. Chuck will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
