Oakdale voters unseat two council members

Oakdale voters unseated two incumbent council members in run-offs in Saturday’s election, according to unofficial results from the Secretary of State’s Office.
Adam Lee Gordon unseated incumbent councilman at-large George Ashy; Gordon won the race with 236 votes, or 53 percent, over Ashy who received 206 votes, or 47 percent, of the votes.
In the District 3 council run-off election, Dina Evaes unseated incumbent Ervin Willis.
Eaves received 95 votes or 61 percent while Willis received 61 votes or 39 percent.
Voters in Kinder voted overwhelmingly to rededicate a 0.3 percent sales tax for the library to support the town’s sewer system and police department. In a vote of 94-24, or 80 percent of voters in favor.
At least 90 percent of the revenue will be used for acquiring, constructing, improving, maintaining and operating the sanitary sewerage system with the remaining 10 percent used to support the police department and provide public safety services. It is expected to collect $205,000 annually for both services.
Voters in the Oberlin area renewed a 10-year, 22.03 mills tax for Road District No. 1. It passed 104 – 44, or 70 percent in favor.
The tax is expected to collect $253,000 annually for operation, maintenance and improvements of roads and bridges.
In the Reeves area voters approved the continuation of a 10-year, 37.62 mills tax for construction, operation and maintenance of roads and bridges in Road District No. 3. It passed 61-46, or 57 percent in favor.
The tax, which is expected to collect $592,500 annually, reflects a 1.83 mills increase due to reappraisal.
Voters in Road District No. 4 in the Fairview area renewed a 10-year, 30.19 mills tax for construction, operation and maintenance of roads and bridges in the district.
It passed 58-39, or 60 percent in favor.
It is expected to collect $182,900 annually.
Voters in Road District No. 4 also renewed an additional 10-year, 21.14 mills for construction, operation and maintenance of roads and bridges by a vote of 62 – 33, or 65 percent.
It is expected to generate an additional $128,000
Voters in Road District No. 1, Sub-Road District No. 1 of Kinder approved the continuation of a 10-year, 8.17 mills tax for construction, operation and maintenance of roads and bridges.
The measure passed 35-12, or 74 percent in favor.
The tax — which is expected to collect $17,400 annually — represents a .14 mills increase due to reappraisal.
Voters in Sub-Road District No. 5A in the Oakdale area renewed a 10-year, 2.79 mills for construction, operation and maintenance of roads and bridges.
The tax, which is expected to collect $195,600 annually, was approved in a vote of 304-237, or 56 percent in favor.
Parishwide Allen Parish voters approved all four proposed constitutional amendments.
