A Jennings man who fatally shot another man during an altercation outside a local convenience store will be sentenced in February after being found guilty of manslaughter.

Tregan Kenneth Citizen, 22, was convicted Thursday in connection with the fatal death of Manuel “Sweet Pea” Jacoby Provost, 28, according to the Jeff Davis Parish District Attorney’s Office.

The charges stem from a June 2022 incident in which Citizen is accused of killing Provost after an altercation between the two men escalated in the parking lot of a South Main Street convenience store.

Testimony and evidence presented during the trial which began Wednesday in the 31st Judicial District Court, showed that Citizen shot Provost multiple times in the head with a handgun.

Several witnesses also identified Citizen as the shooter in video evidence from the crime scene presented to jurors. The video also showed the actual shooting that took place.

Citizen was initially arrested and indicted for second-degree murder in September 2022, but convicted on the lesser charge of manslaughter.

“We respect the jury’s verdict in this case and will continue to work to ensure that the Provost family sees justice served at the sentencing of Tregan Kenneth Citizen,” District Attorney Lauren Heinen said in a press release.

District Court Judge Steve Gunnel will sentence Citizen on Feb. 19, 2025.

Citizen is facing a potential sentence of not less than 20 or more than 40 years without benefit of probation, parole to suspension of sentence, due to the firearm sentencing enhancement under Louisiana law.

The case was prosecuted by Assistant District Attorney Burleigh Doga and First Assistant District Attorney Alexander Guinn.

The case was investigated by the Jennings Police Department.
