S.J. Welsh Middle student arrested after making threats to ‘shoot up’ school

A S.J. Welsh Middle schooler was arrested this morning in reference to a threat.
Calcasieu Parish Sheriff’s Office spokesperson Kayla Vincent said deputies were dispatched to the school at about 10 a.m. after a 14-year-old boy was accused of threatening to shoot up the school.
Vincent said the boy confirmed to deputies he made the threat. He was arrested and booked into the Juvenile Detention Center and charged with menacing. He was also charged with unlawful production, manufacture, distribution, or possession of hallucinogenic plants pending the testing of suspected psychedelic chocolate located in his backpack by school personnel.
CPSO Detective Mika Liptak is the lead investigator on this case.
The Calcasieu Parish School Board assisted CPSO with the investigation.
