Looking to build on a solid opener, the Cowgirls will take on their second non-NCAA team tonight when they play the College of Biblical Studies inside the Legacy Center.
Monday the McNeese State women’s basketball team pounded first-year program Southeastern Baptist 99-19 Monday.
All 13 Cowgirls who dressed scored in the rout. Now they will try to improve even more against the Lady Ambassadors.
“We would like to get off to a better start in this game,” said Cowgirls head coach Lynn Kennedy. “I thought we were a little nervous at the beginning the other day.
True Freshman Lyla Kahrimanovic from Woodinville, Washington made a solid first impression in her new home. Kahrimanovic finished with a game-high 17 points and seven rebounds to lead the Cowgirls.
She also had six steals and four assists.
“I had a lot of fun for my first game,” said Kahrimanovic.
She has impressed her coach in the early going.
“She (Kahrimanovic) plays hard all the time,” Kennedy said. “She brings the intensity. Lyla has a motor that never stops.”
Sophomore Azjah Reeves added 13 points and Julia Puente tossed in 10.
This game will be the season opener for the Biblical Studies women.
“We want to continue what we started in the offseason and not have any letdowns,” said Kennedy.
The Cowgirls will continue to try different combinations as they continue to build team chemistry.
“We have the same goal, rebound, play defense, and transition offense,” said Kennedy. “We have to keep the momentum going and not look at the score.”
The women’s game will be played before the men’s contest as part of a doubleheader.
