The Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development announces that the M/V Cameron II will be removed from ferry service to go into its United States Coast Guard mandated dry dock, starting at 10 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 6.
Once the M/V Cameron II is removed from service, a relief ferry (M/V Acadia) will continue limited service across the ship channel with restrictions.
While the M/V Acadia is in service, any vehicle combinations longer than 50 feet will be required to detour and may use Interstate 10. The boat launch on the west side of the Calcasieu River, adjacent to the ferry landing, will be closed to ensure safety while the relief ferry is in service.
The M/V Cameron II is expected to be in dry dock for approximately six months after work begins. During the scheduled downtime, the M/V Cameron II will undergo its mid-cycle hull exam, internal structural exam and rehab/repairs to major mechanical systems.
