Doris Louise Price

Doris Louise Davis Price, a beloved member of the Deridder community, passed away on Oct. 26, 2024, at the age of 93. Born on Sept. 16, 1931, in Ponchatoula, La., Doris was a devout member of St. Joseph Catholic Church for over 50 years. She was a charter member of the Catholic Daughters of the Americas and actively participated in various church activities, including the Altar Society.
Doris was a dedicated Pink Lady at Beauregard Memorial for over two decades, where she brought comfort and kindness to patients and staff alike. She was the first in her family to attend college and held an associate’s degree from Spencer Draughon Business College in Baton Rouge. Throughout her career, she worked as a secretary in various establishments, including the Department of Physics at LSU, West Brothers, and Bayne-Jones Army Community Hospital.
In her free time, Doris enjoyed participating in Council on Aging activities, where she was a frequent winner of contests such as the Halloween costume contest and the Easter Bonnet contest. She loved engaging in Saturday night bingo and trips to the casino. However, her greatest joy came from spending time with her family, cooking meals with homegrown vegetables, and attending every milestone event for her children and grandchildren.
Those left to cherish her memory are her children, Cheryl Watson and Randy of Waynesville, N.C., Pam Gill and Ronnie of DeRidder, La., Jackie Stewart and Brian of Sulphur, La., Jay Price and Lisa of DeRidder, La.; brother, Leon “Rip” Davis and Gussie of Walker, La.; sisters-in-law, Betty Claire Rogers and Wanda Davis, both of Ponchatoula, La.; brothers-in-law, William Mathes and Ralph Price; grandchildren, Mary Gibbons and Jack, Mark Watson and Jennifer, Tiffany Rogers and Scott, Tyler Gill and Rachel, Victoria “Tori” Picou and Ronnie, Gage Stewart, Jacob Stewart, Sara Beth Stewart, Peyton Stewart, Aimee Price, Emelie Price, Kathryn “Katy Beth” Price; great-grandchildren, Price Picou, Connor Rogers, Rhett Gill, Paisley Picou, Brooks Gill, Parker Gill, Athena Picou and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, family and friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband, John Benjamin Price Sr.; son, John Benjamin Price Jr.; twin daughters, Sharon Mary and Karen Mary; parents, Sebie and Mary Ann Niehaus Davis; twin brother, Douglas Louis Davis; brothers, Alvin Davis, Earl Davis, Hollis Davis, and sister, Evelyn Mathes.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, Oct. 30, 2024, from 10 a.m. until 12 p.m. with a Rosary at 11 a.m. at St. Joseph Catholic Church in DeRidder, La. A Mass of Christian burial will be at 12:10 p.m., also at St. Joseph Catholic Church. Father Wayne LeBleu will officiate the service. Pallbearers will be Mark Watson, Tyler Gill, Gage Stewart, Jacob Stewart, Peyton Stewart, Jack Gibbons. Burial will follow the next day at Ponchatoula City Cemetery in Ponchatoula, La. at 9:30 a.m. on Thursday, Oct. 31, 2024.
Doris will be dearly missed by all who knew her. May she rest in eternal peace.
In lieu of flowers, the family request donations be made in Doris’s name to St. Joseph Catholic Church.
