Surrounded by his family, Dr. Charles Richard Hebert passed away peacefully on the morning of Oct. 25, 2024, at the age of 59. Charles was born on Nov. 4, 1964, in New Orleans, La. A native Louisianian, Charles grew up by the river with his parents, Richard and Shirley Hebert, and his sister, Carol.

Charles graduated with honors from Westlake High School in 1982.  Upon graduation, he was awarded the Arlen Williams Football Award, along with awards from American Legion- Masonic- Kiwanis for character and leadership.  He served as president of his Senior class and graduated from McNeese State University.

Charles was ordained into the ministry By Ernest Walker, Pastor of Sale Street Baptist Church while he was serving as the youth pastor in Dequincy, La.

After graduating from New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary, Charles began his career in ministry as a church planter in Minnesota. From Minnesota, Charles moved to Texas and served at First Baptist Euless before becoming the singles minister at Southcliff Baptist Church in Fort Worth, Texas. While at Southcliff Baptist Church, Charles met his wife of 29 years, Susan. Soon after getting married, Charles became a Single Adult Minister and later a Minister to Married Adults at Prestonwood Baptist Church. While at Prestonwood, Charles and Susan had their children, Ian and Katie Hebert. 

Following this, Charles served as the lead pastor of First Baptist Church in DeQueen, Ark. for seven years. During that time, he earned his Doctorate of Pastoral Care from Southwestern Theological Seminary, before returning to Prestonwood, where he continued his ministry in pastoral care until his passing. 

Charles’ care for others was boundless and unwavering. His empathetic spirit provided refuge and comfort to anyone with whom he interacted. Charles saw others through Christ’s eyes and had an earnest desire to serve those around him. He was devoted to the Lord and devoted to his family. 

His favorite place to be was surrounded by his loved ones. He was a gentle and encouraging father. He was always eager to be involved in any extracurriculars his children participated in, from being a T-ball coach to engineering the walk-out tunnel each Friday night for PCA Lion football. He never missed a game, pep rally, cheer competition, or dance recital. 

Charles was a cherished husband, father, son, and friend. He is survived by his loving wife Susan; his devoted children, Ian and Katie; his parents, Richard and Shirley Hebert; his sister, Carol, and brother-in-law, David Womack; nephews, Marshall and Garrett Womack, and great-nephew, Jack Womack.  Charles was preceded in death by his beloved nephew, Reagan Womack.

Charles was infinitely loved and is deeply missed by all. His faithfulness was inspiring, his compassion was endearing, and his character stands as a testament to the goodness of the Lord. To know Charles was to be blessed. 

A visitation will be held from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 29, 2024, at Prestonwood Baptist Church in Faith Chapel.

The funeral service to celebrate Charles’ life will be held at 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, Oct. 30, 2024, at Prestonwood Baptist Church in the sanctuary.  Burial will be in Sacred Heart Cemetery in Plano, Texas.  All arrangements are under the direction of Allen Family Funeral Options in Plano, Texas.
