Betty Louise Cooper Trahan died peacefully Oct. 14 with her two daughters by her side after a long battle with dementia. She was born Feb. 19,1938 in Tullos, La. to Walter and Myrtle Cooper. She grew up in Jennings and moved to Lake Charles as a young bride and raised her four children. She loved her children and successfully raised them, mostly as a single mom.

She was very proud of her nursing career, which started when her oldest child started school in 1961. She began her career as an aide and became an LPN in 1972. She achieved her lifelong dream of becoming an RN when she earned her bachelor’s degree from McNeese in 1981. She loved being a nurse.

Betty was strong in her Catholic faith and served as a member of the choir at Our Lady of Good Counsel for many years. She loved spending time with her family, crocheting, reading, traveling with her friends, and her beloved dachshunds.
