Ronald Armistead, 69, passed away Saturday, Oct. 12, 2024, in his home with his family at his side. Ronnie was born and raised in Moss Bluff. He retired from Entergy after 35 years as a coal-yard operator. Ronnie was very much a family man somehow managing to never miss a softball game or dance recital despite working shiftwork. He was a genuine example of a person who would give you the shirt off his back. His generosity, humor, and humility are his most admirable qualities.
When Ronnie wasn’t working, he was racing. From go-carts and dirt cars to remote control cars, he loved racing. In his spare time, he was quite the pool shark, depending on who you ask! When he wasn’t busy racing or taking someone’s money in a game of pool, you could find him pranking someone. Anyone who knew Ronnie knew that he never met a stranger and would talk to a wall. He was a professional storyteller highly qualified in exaggeration.
Survivors include his daughters, Alayna Jones (Darren) of Singer and Miranda Vinson (Huey) of Ragley; six grandchildren; one great-grandson; three nieces, and his former wife, Vickie Alvey Armistead. He was preceded in death by his parents, Gordon Sr. and Marjorie Armistead; one sister, Sherry Trahan; and one brother, Gordon Glenn “GG” Armistead.
Ronald’s celebration of life will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 17, at Heritage Funeral Home of Moss Bluff. Bro. Andy Buckley will officiate. Visitation will be Wednesday, Oct. 16, from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Heritage, and will resume Thursday at 9 a.m. until service time. Burial will be in the New Ritchie Cemetery in Moss Bluff.
Family would like to extend a special thanks to the wonderful staff at Heart of Hospice.
