The Beauregard Parish School Board awarded two bids for repairs and upgrades to BPSB campuses at Thursday’s regular meeting.

A bid of $340,000 for roof coatings for the South Beauregard High School cafeteria and gym, and junior high school was awarded to Louisiana Roof Coatings, a roofing contractor based out of Bossier City.

BPSB Superintendent Larry Hollie said at the agenda meeting on Monday, Oct. 7 that a recent $318,955 award from the Governor’s Office of Homeland Security and Emergency Preparedness will almost offset the roof expenditure.

The roof coating will have a 10-year warranty.

Hollie said the South Beauregard auditorium is not included in the project because it is on a bond project and is not used daily.

“We are only doing the buildings that we have kids in all day, every day.”

A base bid of $1,696,000 for baseball and softball improvements at East Beauregard and Merryville high schools was awarded to Alfred Palma, LLC.

Hollie explained at the agenda meeting that the bid exceeds the budget by approximately $210,000, likely because of the project deadline – the budget was $1.5 million. For the fields to be usable by baseball and softball seasons, the project deadline is Feb. 7, he said.

However, this should not be a hurdle, as most BPSB projects have come under budget; The South Beauregard Atheltic Complex project was “right on the nose.”

“We have the money. We look good budget-wise.”

He noted that it is important to get this project moving because the schools have been waiting two years for the improvements.

The bid has an alternate for $14,800, for a total of $1,710,800. This alternate includes lighting in the baseball and softball batting cages at East Beauregard and bleachers at Merryville.
