Mural Ray Cormie Sr., 92, went home to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Oct. 9, 2024, with his beloved family by his side.

Born in Maxie, La., to Joseph Adam and Sarah Belle Welch Cormie on Dec. 20, 1931. He lived most of his life in Lake Charles and Deridder, La. Mural graduated from LaGrange High school in 1951 and from McNeese State University in 1961. He was named an Allstate Football player in 1949 at LaGrange where he was also on the boxing and track teams; he played football for McNeese on the varsity teams in the early 1950s. Mural held membership in the McNeese Alumni Association from 1961 until his passing.

He and his wife, Camille Calloura Cormie, owned and operated grocery stores under the “Cormie” name between 1953 and the time of their retirement in 1991. Being in a “family operated” business afforded he and Camille the wonderful opportunity to have their children “close by to love and nourish” and be able to help them learn to “serve others”. He always referred to Camille as the “matriarch” of their business, attributing whatever success they had to her.

Mural worked for the Calcasieu Parish Sheriff’s Office for 10 years. On leaving that department in 1965 to return to the retail grocery business, he held the position of Personnel and Communications Director.

Mural was a Baptist by faith and served the Lord at First Baptist Church in Deridder, La.  where he was ordained as a deacon in 1998.  And currently at Trinity Baptist Church of Lake Charles, La. He and Camille loved serving the Lord at their churches, and earlier had done mission tours. He was passionate about prayer and the importance of Sunday School and remained active in both until his passing; he especially enjoyed the Emma Couples Class and Wednesday prayer gatherings there at Trinity.

Mural was preceded in death by his father and mother; two brothers, Nathan Adam Cormie and Nolan David Cormie; one sister, Dorothy Cormie Roach; one of his loving sons, Samuel Joseph Cormie who passed in 2011, and his wife, Camille, of 71 years of marriage.
