KINDER — South Beauregard moved the ball with speed and efficiency in the first half to overwhelm Kinder at John C. Buck Stadium Thursday night 48-26.

While not traditionally known for a fast-paced offense, the Golden Knights’ no-huddle offense ran 43 plays in the first half, averaging 15.28 seconds a play to build up a 34-6 halftime lead.

“It’s a little different than anything they’ve ever done,” South Beauregard head coach Brad Kellog said. “It’s pretty fast.

“We try to snap the ball about every ten seconds, so it kind of throws people off. They’re not used to that.”

South Beauregard (5-1) produced 280 of its 426 yards of total offense in the first half without a turnover, just one penalty and no negative yardage plays until the second half. Junior quarterback Christian Wold had a big hand in the Golden Knights’ blazing start. He scored three times in the first half on runs of 2, 40 and 1 yard and completed all eight of his first-half passes. Wold finished with 145 rushing yards on 20 carries and completed 9 of 10 passes for 170 yards, including a 66-yard scoring strike to Cy Barrow in the third quarter.

He’s gotten better every day,” Kellogg said of Wold who became the full-time starter at quarterback this season after starting the last two games of the 2023 season. “We’ve made the move that he’s full-time quarterback.

“He’s just gotten better every week. And like last week, it was lights out. I mean, he went off the charts in the first half last week. He just carried it over. And our receivers are now understanding the route concepts. They’re catching the ball, so it’s freed up our running game.”

South Beauregard running back Cullen Dickerson carried the ball 35 times for 108 yards and three touchdowns, scoring the Golden Knights’ first touchdown on a 5-yard run with 9:51 left in the first quarter.

Kinder (4-2) cut the deficit to 7-6 on an 8-yard run by Logan LeBeouf nearly three minutes later, but South Beauregard took over the game with 34 consecutive points.

Kinder had a wide margin in time of possession at 28 minutes, 36 seconds to the Golden Knights 19:24, but they turned the ball over twice on interceptions by Kade Jackson and Luke Fontenot and fumbled the ball three times on bad snaps or handoffs. South Beauregard forced two turnovers on downs and stopped Kinder inside the Golden Knights 30-yard line three times.

“We just was where we were supposed to be and the kids made plays tonight,” Kellogg said.

LeBeouf led Kinder with 143 yards on 25 carries, and Isaiah Thomas completed 14 of 26 passes for 132 yards.
