Richard O. Teeter

The Rev. Richard O. Teeter, 85, of DeQuincy, passed away on Sunday, Sept. 29, 2024 at Harbor House in Lake Charles. He was born Feb. 11, 1939, in Little Rock, Ark. to Dr. Brooks and Crystelle Teeter. He was a graduate of Arkansas Tech University in Russellville with a BA in music and BS in accounting. He also had a Master of Divinity degree from Perkins Seminary at SMU in Dallas. He was a commissioned officer and a veteran of the US Army and served in Vietnam and Germany. He worked for Frito-Lay in Battle Creek, Mich., an electric co-op in Arkansas and Louisiana, Shelter Insurance, and retired from the Louisiana Conference of the United Methodist Church. He served churches in Downsville, Bunkie, Chalmette, Church Point, Crowley, Raymond, and DeQuincy. He was a member of the Rotary Club of DeQuincy and the VFW.

He is survived by his wife, Jeanette Peterson-Teeter of DeQuincy; sons, Brooks Teeter of Shreveport and Rick (Michelle) Teeter of Howell, Mich.; daughter, Anne Marie (Paula) Teeter of Lake Charles; grandchildren, Chris Willis, Rachel (Rhonda) Price, Richard (Eli) and Cayenne Teeter; brother, Danny (Minnie) Teeter of Russellville; sisters, Ann (Franklin) Pierce of Darien, Ga., and Jeannie Teeter of Charlotte, N.C.

He was preceded in death by his parents, and his first wife, Sharon Bonner Teeter.

His service will be at Crosspoint Community Church (formerly DeQuincy Methodist Church) in DeQuincy on Thursday, Oct. 3, 2024, at 1 p.m., with the Rev. Doug Ezell and the Rev. Jim Barrett officiating. Visitation will be at the church on Thursday, beginning at 10 a.m. until the time of the service. Burial will follow at Masonic Cemetery in DeQuincy. 

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to DeQuincy Methodist Church or the Methodist Children’s Home in Sulphur.
