Denise Roberte Janine Charrier Newman

Denise Roberte Janine Charrier Newman, 100 years, three months, and nine days old, of Lake Charles passed away at 11:13 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 26, 2024 in a local hospice facility.

Mrs. Newman was born on June 17, 1924 in Paris, France where she lived until moving to the states 78 years ago, bringing with her an enduring love for her French heritage.  Educated in Paris, she furthered her studies in English at Sorbonne at St. Vincent de Paul Business College in Paris.  Upon relocating to Lake Charles, she began her career at Muller’s Department Store until marrying and having children.  A devoted member of Our Lady Queen of Heaven, Mrs. Newman also dedicated her time as a volunteer Pink Lady at Moss Regional Hospital.

Above all, Mrs. Newman cherished her family, nurturing them with love and wisdom throughout her life.

 Those left to cherish her memory are her children, Alain Newman (Stephanie), Eric Newman, and Carolyn Viator (Steve) all of Lake Charles; step-daughter, Robin Von Merwald (Vaughn) of Santee, Calif.; former son-in-law and his wife, Randy Goodloe (Becky) of Lake Charles; sister, Francoise Leneveu of Paris; grandchildren, Candy Guillory (Brandon), Jean Paul Goodloe (Sky), Christopher Goodloe (Sonya), Jade Newman, and Chloee Newman, and 10 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Dudley Newman; parents, Maurice and Jacqueline Charrier; grandson, Alain “Maury” Newman Jr., and sisters, Monique Stutes, Solange Rouillon, Nicole Boulay, and Christian Charrier.

A funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 1, 2024 in the Johnson Funeral Home chapel.  Father Charles McMillian will officiate.  Burial will follow in Black Bayou Cemetery.  Visitation will begin at 10 a.m. until the start of the service with a rosary being recited at 12:30 p.m.
