Lake Charles Mayor Nic Hunter is issuing a challenge to local grocery stores, food distribution companies, casinos and other businesses ahead of the 2024 holiday season—help provide a proper Thanksgiving meal to those in need.

The 2024 Mayor’s Turkey Challenge aims to provide a Thanksgiving feast, including turkey, to local families. Twenty donations of $250 to United Way of Southwest Louisiana will make this dream a reality.

“Many people think most politicians are turkeys, so I’m going to make the most out of this stigma,” Hunter said. “In coordination with United Way of Southwest Louisiana, I’m issuing the 2024 Mayor’s Turkey Challenge in hopes of providing some relief during this holiday season to those in need.”
