Curtis Lee Trahan, 77, passed away peacefully on Sept. 19, 2024, surrounded by his loving family and friends. Interment will be in Johnson Bayou. The Rev. Jack Gandy will officiate.
Born Oct. 3, 1946, in Port Arthur, Texas and raised in the marshes of Johnson Bayou, La. Curtis was a dedicated family man who had a passion for everything outdoors. He has had many careers over his years from a fur trapper, alligator hunter, sportsman guide, commercial fisherman, oilfield, watermelon farmer, and carpenter, until retiring to the piney woods of Reeves, La.
He spent countless hours hunting, trapping, and fishing, and he took great pride in teaching his children and grandchildren these skills. His hunting stories were legendary, often shared over a cup of coffee or three. His life was often scheduled around which season was in. Curtis never met a stranger. He never failed to ask you “has anyone told you they love you today?” and no matter what your response, he would still tell you just how much he loved you.
Left to cherish his memories are his devoted, loving wife, Loretta; seven children, Angela Trahan, Troy Trahan (Heather), Eric Trahan (Jefra), Don Trahan (April), Carl Trahan (Lauren), Owen Trahan, Laura Wright (Steve); 19 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; numerous nieces, nephews, a large circle of friends, and his loyal sister-in-law and caretaker, Brenda Ashworth.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Uriah and Hattie Trahan; a son, Ethan Trahan; a great grandchild, Callie Mearse; four brothers, Willie Trahan, Aaron Trahan, Alvin Trahan, and Warren Trahan, and five sisters, Sadie Mae Trahan, Gladys Ennis, Nathalie Hebert, Lillie Mae Ducote, and Shirley Simon.
