Victor Carl Cadenhead Jr.

Victor Carl Cadenhead Jr., 98, of DeRidder, La.passed away Thursday, Sept. 5, 2024.  He was born Feb. 21, 1926, in McKinney, Texas to Victor Cadenhead Sr. and Robbie Margaret Strother.  He is preceded in death by his parents and his older brother, Leland F. Cadenhead.

Carl was an Army veteran of both World War II and the Korean War.  During his time in the Army, he was stationed at Fort Polk, La.  He attended the University of Texas after his service in World War II, and then moved to North Louisiana where he opened a printing business that printed Eddie Robinson’s Grambling Tiger Football program.  He was drafted into the Korean War, and then moved back to Louisiana, this time to DeRidder.

He worked at a linotype setter at the Beauregard News for many years.  Carl could read backwards and upside down faster than most people could read right-side up.  He ended his career at Hyde Bulk Plant as a computer programmer before retiring.

He spent the remainder of his years in DeRidder enjoying the company of friends with lively conversation over lunch or dinner, always capped off with something sweet – preferably a soft-serve vanilla ice cream.

Cremation has been entrusted to Chaddick Funeral Home of DeRidder.  Words of comfort can be shared at chaddickfuner alhome.com

A private interment will be held at Central Louisiana Veterans Cemetery under the direction of Chaddick Funeral Home and the United States Army.  In lieu of flowers, Carl requested that donations be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
