The Westllake High School Theatre’s production of “Disney’s The Lion King, Jr.” doesn’t open until Thursday, Nov. 21, but there’s no reason not to adopt the Swahili Hakuna Matata (no worries) in advance.
Kerry Onxley and his group of 20 actors are already busy rehearsing for the 60-minute musical designed for middle-school aged performers. It’s based on the Broadway production directed by Julie Taymore and the 1994 Disney film. Music and lyrics by Elton John and Tim Rice.
“This is a show that not only entertains but also teaches great lessons,” Onxley said. “The music is great. There is dancing, inspiring lyrics and colorful costumes, sets and masks.”
Westlake High Theatre Department offers classes in beginning acting, advanced acting and technical theatre. It exists to create extraordinary experiences that educate, challenge and inspire students and audiences.
